Who will win?

The competition is on this year!  Let’s see which Michigan team has the biggest fans at Georgetown prior to their showdown in Lansing on November 2nd, the Saturday before we kick off our Book Fair.

This is the fun part, if MSU fans bring in more coins Mr. Kooiker will wear MSU colors and if U of M fans bring in more coins Mr. Bowen will wear U of M colors on Wednesday, October 30th for Spirit Day!  Which team will it be?  Help us decide with your loose change!

Along with supporting your team your loose change will help us purchase book for classroom libraries.  This helps get more kids reading and those kids reading more.

The All for Books money we collect also helps readers beyond our school and community. Scholastic Book Fairs matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books to the Kids In Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.

Please send in your donation prior to October 29th.  Baggies and book slips will be sent home the week of October 21st.  We’ll be weighing the coins at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29th to determine the winner!

Please join us on October 30th and wear your favorite team’s apparel.

Your act of kindness helps to bring more knowledge, imagination, and love for reading into the lives of our students.

Thank you!  Mrs. Havens, Chair of Book Fair and Georgetown Staff

MEAP Rules and Schedule…It’s HERE!!!

Hi Parents!
As you know from my earlier blog post (Oct 1), the MEAP begins this week.  I have listed our grade level test times below.  The test days are mandated by the State.

MEAP RULES:

On test days, all students must be on time.  If they are late, and the test has begun, they cannot take the test that day.  Late students will need to sit in the office until the test is completed and take the test on one of the make up dates (also mandated and determined by the state).

Furthermore, if you child needs to leave during the test time, any unanswered questions are scored as wrong.  We ask that you NOT interrupt the MEAP test schedule.

We want all children to do their very best.  This is a high stakes test and we want to do all we can to support them.

Thank you for your support!

The 4th Annual HEF Fun Fest Fundraiser is coming Friday, October 11th from 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Eagles Stadium.  The activities will take place on homecoming before the home varsity football game against Grand Haven and include dunking HPS staff members in one of our dunk tanks, showing off your football throwing skills, bouncing around in the bounce house, getting your face painted, 50/50 raffle and much more.

Once again, there will be a raffle for a 50” TV and gaming system to be given away at half time of the last home game on October 25.  Buy your raffle tickets at any home game for your chance to win this great prize.  This event is sponsored by the Hudsonville Education Foundation and all proceeds will be used to fund grants for resources and innovations that directly enhance the education of our students in Hudsonville Public Schools.

AND…the GEORGETOWN DUNK TANK time period is at 4:30 pm.  We will have Mr. Kooiker and Mrs. Stadt in the tank for 15 minutes.  (4:30 to 4:45pm).  Please come and support the HEF and take a turn at dunking two of our wonderful teachers.

Go Eagles Go!! From Mrs. Bretz

Whether you cheer for Michigan, Michigan State or Notre Dame, one thing we ALL cheer for is
HUDSONVILLE!!!

This week, 4th and 5th grade are studying anthems.
We began by playing a name-that-tune game of favorite college fight songs (even though some student fans insisted their ears were bleeding when we played the rival college song!!  To make it fair, I DID play both Michigan and Michigan State!!)

Then we all cheered together and learned the words to our very own Hudsonville Fight Song!
If you don’t know it, ask your child to teach it to you!

HUDSONVILLE FIGHT SONG

Go Hudsie High School
Plunge right through that line
With your colors flying,
we will cheer you all the time!  RAH RAH RAH

Go Hudsie High School
Fight for victory
Spread far the fame of our fair name
and GO YOU EAGLES win this game!

We are continuing our discussion of anthems by celebrating the anniversary of the “Star Spangled Banner.”  We have learned a mini history lesson of how it was written and have played a few games to help us learn the words.  Go team USA!

Book Bags are coming home tonight :)

bookpile

My wonderful 4th grade students learned today how we will be using our reading logs during the school year. Today they received a book bag and reading log. Every day they will be bringing home their book bag. Inside the bag will be their book and reading log. They will be reading the same book at school and at home.

Tonight, please have your 4th grader show you their book bag/reading log and explain what they need to fill in each time they read both at school and at home. It is the students’ responsibility to carry these materials to and from school every day.

Research shows the more reading the students do…the stronger readers they will become. The reading logs are a way for the students to see if they are using their reading time effectively; by keeping track of the amount of pages read in a certain time period.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Reading! :)

Mindy H.
