Next Week is Holiday Spirit Week (December 14- 18).
*Monday, December 14- Cozy Holiday Socks and/or slippers.
*Tuesday, December 15- Holiday Headgear (Holiday hats, headbands, hair and/or scarves).
*Wednesday, December 16- Holiday Sweater Day (Ugly or Cute).
*Thursday, December 17- Holiday Spirit Clothes- wear your red and green and white!
*Friday, December 18- A Long Winter’s Nap- Pajama Day-Holiday themed if you have them!
The annual P.E. C.A.R.E.S food drive will be starting on November 4. We are asking for you to help by bringing in non-perishable food items for Love Inc. in Hudsonville.
Food items to consider are canned vegetables and fruits, pasta, rice, baked beans, black beans, kidney beans, peanut butter, tuna fish, etc. (please no ramen noodles, and please do not break apart packaged food)
The food drive will continue until Nov. 18. We will be keeping track of how many items each class brings in. The class with the most items brought in by NOON on Nov. 18 will win a P.E. C.A.R.E.S t-shirt and a bowling trip to Hudsonville Lane. (If allowed this year)
This is a great opportunity for our students to care for their community, to teach our kids compassion and love for others. Thanks for sharing in this service project with us at Georgetown.
Hi Parents,
Our fall party was a blast! I’m not sure the kids realize that we actually accomplished some work throughout the day! We did math– (2 digit x 2 digit multiplication to solve a riddle), reading– (worked in small groups on decoding and fluency with a readers theater), and writing– (used a die/dice to select a character/setting/problem that they will continue to write).
During the party, the kids enjoyed Minute-To-Win-It games using Ghost Boogers, learning new skills with chopsticks, straws and toothpicks! As always, your kids were fun, polite, and appreciative! We missed your presence, but are thankful for the donations that you provided!
We have some beautiful parks in Ottawa County! Check them out!

Can you believe that we’re already well into October!?
Here is a quick snapshot of what we’re working on…
In Reading, we’ve begun Unit 2- learning how to tackle non-fiction text! Eventually, we will research weather and natural disasters in teams, learning about earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, floods, and tsunamis!
We are presently Writing our very own Realistic Fiction Story based on our own real life experiences, but made even better by writing stories that we wish existed!
Currently, we are tackling Unit 2 Math which is all about Multiplication! It is always very helpful for your child to practice math facts (pretty please?).

Hi Parents,
In addition to continuing the Getting to Know Each Other process, here is what we’ve been up to in the first two weeks of 4th grade!
Our first unit of study in Reading lays the groundwork for good reading habits. Students are taught how to set reading goals, choose a Just Right book, read actively, and build reading stamina. As part of your child’s homework, I expect some reading practice at home- at least 20 minutes each school night. Reading logs and books will begin to come home with your child soon!
As we dig into writing Personal Narratives, we are learning to generate ideas of what to write by thinking about Special People, Special Places, and Strong Emotions. We also are learning to add sensory details to help the reader experience the story. I love to read the end product as it helps me get to know your child better!
We are tackling numbers up to 1 Million in math this first unit! Students are learning how to model and read and write numbers in standard form (24), word form (twenty-four), and expanded form (20 + 4). We are also rounding numbers!
On September 17, we will observe Constitution Day! This day commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution by our Founding Fathers.
As you can see, we have been working hard!
